Hello!
While I do have an artistic bio, I figured it might be fun to make this page a little more conversational.
Ready to start the interview, Sally?
I am, Koz. This idea isn’t self-centered at all.
You have a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in dramaturgy. What does that word mean?
Every dramaturg defines “dramaturgy” differently. I define dramaturgy as the art of strengthening a new or established project through creative collaboration, analysis, experimentation, and reflection.
Another way I like to define the word is by saying a dramaturg is to a project as a coach is to a sports team. Like how a coach observes a team and offers drills and advice with the intention of helping the team improve, a dramaturg works with a writer and/or creative team by observing the project, clarifying the creative team’s goals, and offering suggestions with the intention of helping the project become more aligned with those goals. I’m primarily a new work dramaturg, which means I usually work with writers in the process of creating scripts. I use dramaturgical diagnostic techniques when I’m reading over my own writing as well.
You’re a writer, too?
I am! I mostly write TV episodes, but I work on my playwriting and movie writing skills, too. I’m also a trained actor and improviser. I firmly believe actors can learn from writers, writers can learn from actors, and everyone can learn from improv.
You moved to LA in February 2025. What prompted you to make that decision?
My dream is to create my own TV shows. I moved to LA to learn more about the process of TV writing and how others tackle that Herculean task.
What are some of your favorite shows?
A fantastic question! Thank you for letting me have multiple answers. Some of my favorite shows are Feel Good, Hacks, Little Fires Everywhere, and Normal People - all shows with complex characters and themes for the audience to chew on after each episode ends.
Last question: what are your wonderful earrings?
The earrings in the photo are chickens rocking some glitter boots. They are my go-to statement earrings.
