The Real Girls
Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA | Original full-length audio play with music
In the not so distant future where it’s possible to download social media into your brain, four teenage sisters (whose dad encouraged them to undergo that operation) become The Real Girls: a pop music girl group primed to entertain the masses. Glamor Girl, Party Girl, Girl Scout, and Girly Girl rise to the top of the charts in both their group and solo endeavors, but they are only able to keep the public’s adoration if they align their professional and personal choices with the demands of the ever-changing algorithm. Inspired by the career and conservatorship of Britney Spears, The Real Girls uses satire and bubblegum pop to explore the limbo between person and persona.
